Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this book. This was a quick read and compelling once you realize that one of the twins is trapped in some type of cult situation. It wasn't the best writing, but not bad enough to detract from the story. A solid psychological thriller with a neat & tidy ending.

The ending was a little anticlimactic. The big GASP moment for me was right around the middle. Other than that I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the complex relationships between the characters, especially between Sam and Elli. I also enjoyed how the story unfolded!

Anyone interested in the phenomena of cults like NXIVM (especially their women’s program J’ness) or Scientology will hear some familiar tales in this one. Loved it!

This book is just weird, you have to suspend your sense of disbelief. It’s not thrilling, the beginning has you hooked just to drag and leave you disappointed by the middle part and especially the end.

Their mom is so obtuse, your daughter barely texts you after leaving her kid with you, stays at this spa for longer than she says she will and you’re just “oh well”. No trying to get in contact or calling the police, but let me call my other daughter to try to get her to come help even though they haven’t spoken in years.

Sam had this thought but the mom didn’t think about how if a couple is in the process of adopting but splits up, they’d halt the adoption.

There’s a romance storyline that just gets dropped in the middle then picks back up at the very end, Sam’s addiction storyline just gets dropped. The whole former child stars angle was pointless. The story is told from Sam’s POV then switches to Elli who just rehashes everything then we switch back to Sam.

I thought the whole “pretending to be the other twin” would play a bigger role.

The cult storyline turns out to be boring, there’s no big climax, they just walk out of the building with some files that were easy to access. Honestly maybe Medina was right in Sam being toxic for Elli.

I just felt bad for Emma/Charlotte and her parents. Elli kidnapped her and there’s no repercussions, I guess Elli and Sam are forced to live with constantly looking over their shoulders. Emma/Charlotte was talking a bit, she could’ve eventually said something that would lead to the twins
