This is an unpleasant, gritty novel, that manages to be pleasant to read. The satirical aspects of the body scout were extremely well done and I enjoyed the novel's slyly comedic edge and wit. Where this book didn't ultimately resonate for me was in its balance of world-building and plot/character development. By the end, I felt bogged down by the book's detailed focus on baseball and the perhaps too heavy emphasis on building the world because the story--despite its unexpected twists--was not giving me great returns on my investment into these details.

Clever sci-fi meets stereotypical hard broiled detective novel.

DNF. I only gave it 60-odd minutes but I found that there was too much going on to really get into it. The characters were unbelievable and unlikeable so I decided to move on...

This book felt less like a book and more like an amalgamation of scifi concepts the author thought were cool. But the concepts were all gimicky and commonplace with no satisfying characters to fall back on. JJ was not built up enough for me to care about him, even through Kobo, so i could not care about the murder mystery. Not very good imo. Just overdone scifi concepts with no substance.

A murder mystery of upgraded body proportions. Plenty of twists and turns to make this book stand out from the rest of the humdrum mysteries I've been reading. You don't have to love baseball, but sports are a theme here. And pharmaceuticals.
