Writing is a bit simplistic and everything happens to come quite easily to the MC, but I still really enjoyed reading this. This is definitely a mystery fantasy.

SCREAMING AND CRYING AT ALL OF THE JIEH AND MINGSHIN MOMENTS IN THIS BOOK ACKKKK. also, ren wholly deserved what he got at the end of the book like he was a traitor through and through. i can't wait for the sequel since the ending is a bit (understatement) of a cliffhanger LOL. this book was a solid debut!

Big webtoon vibes, and I'm living for it!

Mingshin is a merchant's daughter vowing to protect her family and never be used again once in the past. She fights her heart to not fall for Jieh who proves to be a green flag~ Besides her visceral reactions to Ren as she despises him this time are hilarious.
I enjoyed that Hanxin and Lonzo became allies and a dash of princess/bodyguard romance.
Mingshin stayed guarded with her wits about, so I'm excited to read more as she grows (hopefully gaining powers).

This was enjoyable! This story did nothing new to this standard plot, but it's a plot I enjoy reading so I was not unhappy with it. The writing and characters are good, I do wish the romance did anything to make you feel like the FL fell in love with the ML for a reason. That felt tacked on and unearned.

A Bright heart is an engaging book with a really intriguing premise, unfortunately the last third of the book is a convoluted mess.

The story is initially captivating but the more complicated and fantastical the story gets the less engaging it becomes. Character development, plot and detail all goes amiss the last third of this book.

Mingshin is a wonderful character with a lot of depth and character development and so is her love interest Jieh. Many of the other characters seem compelling and multilayered for the first half of the book but that comes to an abrupt halt as characters, events, answers, and questions are thrown in your face during the later half of the book at breakneck speed.
