Good evidence-based advice about what to really avoid and what's not so serious. What the medical profession assumes is fact even if the latest and best studies don't necessarily agree. It's been quite a while since I read the earlier chapters, but Oster does a great job finding studies specific to the question at hand and breaking down the data in an accessible way.

I don't know how you rate a book like this, so I'm not going to rate it. She brought up interesting research and facts, but basically I skimmed the book reading what I wanted and ignoring stuff that didn't interest me or that I didn't agree with. So, like I said ... can't really rate this one ;)

Solid a good read! Very interesting point of view of an economist with plenty of research and data-based interpretation of all stages of conception and pregnancy, with great deal of information per trimester and delivery.

learned a lot about pregnancy. did dispel some myths. was especially interested in the chapter on home birth statistics but felt it could have been fleshed out more. seems like most of this book gives a cursory glance at studies and draws conclusions quickly but it gives some peace of mind for moms to be when they make their choices that there is at least SOME science behind them.
