follows a 16 year old girl, who isnt like other girls. She's thin and pale but not like sexy thin and pale, however there is something about her. She vows to avenge her family-she escapes their fate and discovered her darkness/edge are her literal power. She smokes cigarillos, she drinks whiskey and she has sex. She kills a lot of people, but I guess, doesn't remember. Then goes to an assassin school to fight for the privilege to be one of their assassins. Much of the book follows her time there. While at the school she gets a boob job and learns the secrets of seduction, poisoning, fighting, and lying. The writing itself spends a lot of time pushing metaphors highlighting the most mundane things. The book would be half as long if it didn't use so many words to describe how sensual someone's smile was or speculating what was going on behind someone's eyes. I could never stop thinking about the main characters age. I have read other books with non-adult characters in very adult situations but was able to be immersed enough for me not to question every bit of dialogue or reference to their long life lived. If I'm brought so out of the material I am wondering what the author was doing or getting out of this we have a problem .

It took me about 200 pages to get into the book, and I kind of wish it ended before like the last 50. It was a really cool world and witty writing, and honestly the cat was the best character.

Che viaggio.
La scrittura di Kristoff è uno dei punti più forti di Nevernight, tagliente, diretta e crudele. Proprio come la storia di Mia.

L’autore a mio parere è riuscito a pieno a creare il worldbuilding, a partire dal linguaggio e i vari termini usati per indicare il passare del tempo fino ad arrivare alle imprecazioni (es: bisso e sangue).

Non ho letto tanti fantasy durante la mia vita ma questo è uno di quelli che più mi è sembrato reale e ben costruito. 

Non ho dato le 5 stelle solamente per due punti:
Il primo è il finale, trovo che Jay Kristoff potesse trovare un modo migliore di invogliare la lettura del secondo volume.
Il secondo è la caratterizzazione di alcuni personaggi. Se in Mia, Tric e altri personaggi vedo una grande scrittura, ce ne sono altri invece che nonostante siano ben importanti per il flusso della storia mi sono sembrati non tanto profondi e caratterizzati come altri. Può essere e anzi spero che con i prossimi volumi vengano approfonditi meglio.

In conclusione ho apprezzato moltissimo tutta l’esperienza e sicuramente contuerò la trilogia.

One of the worst feelings you can get from reading a book is feeling sleazy for engaging with it. 

Another terrible feeling is sighing at lines that try way too hard to be epic every few pages.

And fast-forwarding past footnotes that do absolutely nothing but slow the pacing to a crawl.

And being annoyed at the fetishy treatment of teenagers, lesbians, and brown people.

Did I actually like anything about this? Uh. The world is kind of interesting? I liked Carlotta. Ashlinn was okay. 

The teachers sucked, though. 

Sigh. What a waste of hours. 

Solid narration by Holter Graham, however.
