General Thoughts:
Really enjoyed the setting and the premise of following these two young orphans survive in Newfoundland Canada. This historical fiction was a real page turner for me even if objectively not that much happens in each chapter as its very day in the life but I loved following this sibling relationship and these two children come of age. I think its thematic discussions were done really well for me, in that they were obviously there but didn't overwhelm me. There are for sure moments that will make some readers uncomfortable but I felt like the topics that were brought up were handled with a lot of care and made sense. Once again my heart was stolen by a book I would have never picked up on my own, thank you book club.

Recommendation: If you like survivalist stories and want an atmospheric historical fiction set in a unique time and place I would try this out. The writing is stunning and made me invested in some of the most mundane of tasks.
