Don't expect much from this book as far as action. It's very much a transitional book leading up to the next quest in the series. Why the author felt he had to re-harsh and review the past story lines and characters at this point doesn't make much sense since it's book 11 in the series and anyone reading the book already knows the past very well.

I adore this series, so I'm predisposed to like each book as it comes along. This one is definitely a transition between the last series and a new one. As a long-time fan, there's more exposition than I need or want, but I understand the need to make a book approachable for people who haven't read the previous ten. I would not recommend it as a way to enter the Emberverse, but it's fine for those of us who are already fans of the series.

Book 11 in an ongoing series and feeling a bit tired. This was is all set up for the next adventure - gathering up the players, heading in the right direction. Slow, kind of pretty (too pretty) and definitely too slow. Maybe the next one will be better though - I'm really not feeling it much with the current cast though. And definitely it is more of the same, though less war.

Suspension of disbelief demands are way too high. I just can't buy into LARPers being the ONLY survivors of the apocalypse, and that two generations after the technological apocalypse, society has reverted back to a renfaire reenactment of the middle ages with no echoes of the modern world that they left behind.

I have enjoyed this series since the beginning, but I'm giving up now. I feel there is still fertile ground in this universe, but I need the story to advance beyond the incessant descriptions of every weapon, article of clothing, food item, etc. It is tiresome, and has slowed the pace of the story down to a painful plod.

For some reason I keep thinking that the series will start moving faster again and this book proved me wrong again.  A lot of wonderful detail about what the characters are wearing but the plot itself just drags.

This book brings authors interpretations of the Japanese culture to the story, which is a welcome change. Ultimately thou, the bigger story itself is slowed down to a snail's-pace. I do enjoy it and will continue reading, but my overall rating for the series as a whole had been changed to 4 Stars on re-reading it again this year.

Ok, I'd have given this four stars if more had actually happened. Also, there was this random chapter in Australia that was kind of unnecessary. I'm assuming it'll be important later.

But, there were so many good female characters in this book! That alone will make this part of the series more interesting to me. Sadly, as I expected, this book was mostly world-building and preparations for the next books, but I so badly want the next book now! Reiko and Heuradys are my favs.
