Although the start and middle of this book is just as good as it's predecessors, there's something about the latter half that was a bit of a let down.

I loved the backstory to Gloam; finding out, piece by piece, that he's a caring being who can't the situation he's in. It was Adam that I found a little too much.

Additionally, the epilogue for this one felt quite detached from the romance, and Gloam's retelling of his past would have fit better into one of the dialogues, such as when he was explaining things to Aury.

Despite all of this, it was still an adorable read (or reread in my case), and a solid 3.75/5.

This is maybe the sweetest but also scariest in the series yet. I enjoyed the mix of raider camp and journey story lines and I loved how Rig and Gloam worked together to face all of the obstacles they encountered together. Gloam is the sweetest smartest boi and Rig is so happy and dedicated to him. Love love love.

The dystopian hellscape vibe is super strong in this and there are a lot of really gory scenes so just be ready. Lily doesn’t pull any punches with this installment. The body horror and blood/trauma is especially graphic.

I loved this one so much. Adam/Rig is truly selfless in his wish to help Gloam which is so true to him - we first see it with Aury. His motivation made perfect sense to me.

I felt like sometimes things came to Adam too easily but on the other hand I also feel like he was actually good at being out in the wastes and just never got the chance to use the skills he definitely developed living in a raider camp.

This is truly, so far, my fav book in the series.

This book was nothing like what I was expecting. It really did take some unexpected turns. It was intriguing to see a truly monstrous part of The Wastes. And Collector Mary is an even more terrible character than we were lead to believe she was in the previous book. Rig's romance with Gloam is nothing like the other books and that's what made it such a great read. I was smitten with the both of them from the first time Gloam offered to keep Rig warm. I'm cannot wait to learn more about Moth in the next book! Plus, it is Charlie's book and I am totally ready to see him more on page!

The trust that these two build with each other is utterly adorable. Gloam is a super fun species and I loved learning about his background.

I hope the cannibal cult gets addressed later in the series. Something remarkable to me about this series and the way the author has set it up is how well loose ends are being tied up over the course of the series. It was super frustrating early in the series for random characters, like Collector Mary, to be mentioned in throw-away lines without follow-up. I'm really appreciating it now.
