i really loved the drawing style on this, and how the author drew herself as different characters to portray her different thoughts. i also loved how she decided to represent depression. overall, the stylistic choices are really good, although they can be a bit confusing at first. but there's no doubt that the author is a really good cartoonist.

the book per se doesn't really have a plot, it is more of a character study, about how the author's depression affected her during six months.

since this is a memoir i think im just gonna keep my rating private. did i like the book? yeah, it was pretty cool and i liked how she handled the complexity of mental health and mental instability. and i totally get how this might have been helpful and therapeutic for the author. i guess i was just expecting to get some closure? maybe a consistent plot?

I'm finding it harder and harder to rate memoirs. There's a lot to think about here, a lot of it tough and confronting, but honest, too. I'd caution readers with suicidal thoughts to approach this one carefully.

Literally got chills from this multiple times. As much as the author hates the word "relatable," Its Lonely is definitely relatable. Not in its entirety, but the things that we learn from the past and the struggle with mental illness are so well reflected in this autobio. The art is impeccable and beautiful, too. So glad I picked this up!!

"It's Lonely At The Centre Of The Earth" is an autobiographical and intimate graphic novel that describes in detail how the author survives her depression day by day.

The art is incredible. Very experimental and intense. It makes you feel like you are inside her head, playing around with drawings, photos, and scans.
I liked the depiction of Depression or Anxiety as physical creatures lurking in the shadows. Everything felt very raw and honest, even all her versions coexisting. A very realistic way to represent her mental health on page.

I really appreciate how honest this book is, there is no plot here ad that's fine. Sometimes you just need to do catharsis.

Keep in mind that you have to be in the right mindset to read this, otherwise, it could be triggering.

TW: suicide, self-harm, depression, drug use.

One of those books that you saw and immediately knew that you have to read. Right away.

This book is unfortunately very relata-[GUNSHOT]

Anyway. The art is incredible. The story is raw and honest - well, as honest as one believe. I know the feeling of darkness and the need to create something out of it to justify its existence. The words I wrote during those times would always be the most honest I could ever be.

Doesn’t make it feel any less like a performance.

Sorry to the author - I didn’t read this while I was in a good space. But I was in the void with you. And it was comforting indeed.

It is lonely at the centre of the earth. The creation born from it can be magnificent. It is lonely, and it is comfortable. Easy.

You have to want something else. We have to.
