buildingtaste's review against another edition
fast-paced
- Plot- or character-driven? Plot
- Strong character development? No
- Loveable characters? It's complicated
- Diverse cast of characters? No
- Flaws of characters a main focus? Yes
I picked this up in a little free library--one of the pocketbook editions from the 70s. If you want to introduce someone to Wodehouse's breezy brand of battiness, don't pick this one. Not only are Jeeves and Wooster separated for much of the book, but Bertie spends the last third or so in blackface.
Graphic: Racial slurs and Racism
Moderate: Confinement, Fire/Fire injury, and Alcohol
Minor: Physical abuse
Extended scenes of blackface play a major plot role. Slurs throughout the book. A character is held hostage, and another is arrested. A character's home burns down. A minor character gets severely intoxicated. Off-screen incidents of physical abuse to children.
