A Whale of the Wild // by Rosanna Parry

I don't read a lot of middle grade books but I'm really glad I picked this one up. It was a fun and interesting story about one of my favorite animals growing up. I learned a lot about Orcas thanks to this book and really felt immersed into this adventure. It's definitely a book I could see myself buying for our future kids!

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I read this book with my 7th grader and we both enjoyed it. My daughter had read “A wolf called Wonder” multiple times and she felt like that one had more storyline to it. “A whale of the wild” was beautifully written and absolutely heartbreaking at times. I love how the author was able to be informative but they also wrote such a great story. There were times while reading this book where I had tears and felt so sad. There were also times where I felt sick to my stomach, those poor seals 😭 I didn’t like how the POV would change with every chapter but it wasn’t labeled who talking at the beginning of each chapter. Once you started the chapter I felt like you realized it a page or two in. However, I feel like young readers will struggle with keeping track, I know my 7th grader did at times and so did I. We will be reading more by this author in the future!
