Unexpectedly, a very powerful read.
I very rarely read celebrity memoirs but I've always had a certain affection for Britney Spears. This was really hard to read at times but also felt empowering because I deeply resonated with some of her unfortunate experiences. For the first time, maybe ever, I truly felt like I was not the only woman in pain and terribly traumatized who had to learn how to survive and build herself a place in this world.

Reading the experiences that Britney Spears went through left me with so much anger, sadness, and frustration for her. It is disgusting how the institutions we have in place, that are supposed to help and keep us safe, are constantly and consistently failing us. There are many heartless people in this world who should die, but death is a kind mercy they do not deserve.

There are many complaints on the writing in this memoir, which is just focusing on the wrong thing imo, but the narrative tone of voice just sounded very young to me. I found this to be very fitting given the trauma she experienced, specifically in the sense of how trauma effects you neurologically, and it helps you understand just how young she was going through all this.

This poor woman. If you are in any way a Britney Spears fan, and even if you're not, this is important to read. She is literally treated like the protagonist of THE YELLOW WALLPAPER. If we lock her up, we can do whatever we want. Heartbreaking.

What a read! I knew, in passing, about Britney Spears being under a conservatorship, but never knew how bad it was. The way she detailed her confined life during those 13 years was so heartbreaking. Even in the way she writes, you can feel how much she was stunted in order to be their money bag. It wasn't the best writing; it was the writing of someone with all this anger and sadness and confusion and loneliness, who is finally free and wants the world to know what happened to her.
