Okay. This book was so much darker than I thought it would be. I would like to start this review off by saying that this book is extremely good written and a really great book, however I am definitely too young to pick this up (I am 17) and I do want to warn the young adults who thinks about picking this up. Please wait a couple of years first!
My Dark Vanessa is a book that follows a traumatized and manipulated girl named Vanessa in 2017, while we also get to follow her during the time of the abuse when she was fifteen years old. To hear this young girl being so heavily abused and manipulated by her own teacher is very heartbreaking and heavy. I was not ready for what was coming, and I do in some kind of way regret picking this up.
The line that truly broke me was “I need it to be a love story”. During the story I felt some annoyance towards Vanessa and her actions when she’s an adult, but that line truly made me feel all the emotions.
Even though this is an incredible book I just wasn’t ready and therefore this book will not get a rating.

This story made me feel sick the entire time I was reading it, but I just couldn't put it down! There were so many times I wanted to reach through the pages and shake this girl screaming "why are you protecting him?!!" which I know is the whole point of such a frustrating character. Four stars because I felt it hit it's climax way too early with Strane's death and it could have led to a more exciting build up if it left that bit till the end. I think the best and scariest part of this whole book is that I saw myself in this girl and unfortunately I know a few Stranes that I have had the misfortune of coming across in my life. They are still out there.
