The pacing was worst than the first but I didn't really feel like anything was lacking because of it. We adore the sisters and the mothers and the romance, which wasn't really a romance in this one but I repeat: was the sex necessary? NO! But thanks for dirty words tossed in there for fun. And I would accept the sex towards the end if the third book was about their child years later but NO, it's about the other QUEEN. Why oh why. But here is not the place. I did still enjoy the book and proudly label it as 3.5 stars.

I am so in love with Aren and Lara! This story was incredible - I don’t think I was able to take a deep breath for all 331 pages. Which, unfortunately, brings me to my complete and utter disappointment that the third book won’t be following them. I support the idea of following the story of Keris and Zarrah because that does seem like the natural direction by then end of this book. However, there is still a lot to the story of Aren and Lara left! This book was a bit rushed, especially at the end, so there wasn’t time to feel - what’s the word I’m looking for? - satisfied, perhaps. There wasn’t a sense of natural finality. Why not have book 3 follow Keris and Zarrah and then bring it back to Aren and Lara since both stories will have to intersect at some point, right? Just once, I’d love for a series to to end at a point that actually feels natural (the Wicked trilogy by JLA is a perfect example). Where you finish the story, hold the book to your chest, take in a deep breath, and think, “wow, yeah, that was it.” There are far too many that switch stories right when it feels it’s just beginning (*cough* ACOTAR *cough*). So I guess I’m just obsessed with the story and dynamic of Aren and Lara and am desperate to know more! ❤️

Regardless, this story is fantastic and I recommend it to everyone! I’ve never read Danielle Jensen’s work before, but she has certainly earned a new loyal fan!

If you love JLA and SJM, you’ll fall head over heels for DLJ
