This play had a lot of what the others have, treason and madness. It also where a lot of the well known phrases come from.

' By the pricking of my thumb something wicked this way comes '

It also is where my favorite Shapearean insult comes from:
' What you egg.'

The wishes rhymes were my favorite part.

For as long as I can remember, I've heard wonderful things about Shakespeare's Macbeth. Knowing that it was one of his tragedies allowed me to enter the play with a bit of enthusiasm--I've always preferred Shakespeare's tragedies over his historical plays or comedies. I'm going to be honest--at first, I was very wary. The first scene of the play in itself was sort of dull, and I thought for a moment that the storyline would be a bit reminiscent of Richard III (which just so happens to be the last Shakespeare play I read for class; not a favorite, I'll tell you that much). Much to my surprise, however (and pleasantly, at that), Macbeth quickly turned into one of the most interesting pieces written by Shakespeare that I've ever read. The characters were filled to the brim with riveting personalities, the plot line was intriguing to read, and I found it easy to read through and comprehend. Definitely a favorite among Shakespeare plays I've read, though I doubt anything will ever beat my love for Hamlet.

still one of my absolute favourite shakespeare plays, despite having studied it relentlessly for gcse !

i watched the RSC 2018 production this time with christopher eccleston and it was incredible, focusing on the idea of time predominantly, a clock counting down the moments to macbeth's death for the majority of the play.

macbeth is well aware that he is working with borrowed time from the beginning. banquo's heirs will be king, meaning his legacy will not continue. but he is willing to desperately cling to power for as long as possible. its a testament to the corruption that "vaulting ambition" has caused.

and lady macbeth's soliloquy is forever engraved into my mind

Set in Scotland, shakespeare brings another tragedy filled with betrayal, honor, cruelty and duty to our lives. Macbeth revolves around the idea of how one small chance at power ruins great men. I loved the confusion in Macbeth's moral compass and the shrewdness in Lady Macbeth's character. I could also see the flaws and strengths of every individual character with their individual plotlines, which, to me is the best part of shakespeare novels. The fantasy element adds a bit of surrealism in the storyline but it works with the progression of the plot and characters.

“Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player,
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.”
