I absolutely loved the journey of reading thisss
It made me laugh, it made me cry and I got so emotionally attached to the characters and the journeys they go on
So happy I grabbed this from the bookstore after having heard such good things about it and once I started it I couldn’t put it down and absolutely binged it lol

I always say this but I always rate YA more leniently because I'm not the target audience and I try to imagine how teen me would feel. (Honestly it was about 3 stars)

Honestly, Teen me would not read contemporary romance but I think if she did she would love this book. While there was very limited ugly crying and the plot was rather predictable, I truly enjoyed how this work tackled issues of race, especially internalized biases that we may hold ourselves to and how one navigates a world that they are not welcomed in. How it addressed Classism is also appropriate, as Quinn has some thoughts that had me like Girl? You sure this is the thought process you want it subscribe to?

Is it the best book for targeting these issues? No but I imagine for a teen trying to figure their lives out, especially in circumstances (not the blackmail part but operating in a world where you are othered) that Quinn find herself in, would be glad for a character that's so relatable.

I'm also a sucker for unlikely friendships and finding the persons that were meant for you, there's nothing more beautiful that community and with what happening to Hattie, I'm glad Quinn
found a friend in Livvy

The journey of self acceptance and
removal of dependency from her journal
is wonderful and I'm actually very happy with the third act and the establishment of boundaries
If she had forgiven Carter immediately I would have been most upset

Excuse Me while I ugly cry is a beautiful journey of self acceptance, setting personal boundaries and carrying yourself out of your comfort zone, the importance of community and family amongst things. While I do find it somewhat immature (for my age) in terms of its target audience I firmly believe it's a strong contender

definitely a very entertaining read, the characters were super diverse and the story progressed in a very believable manner, especially considering they’re all teenagers. my main issue was that some of the parts of the story lagged a bit? like the campus visits were parts that i found a bit arduous to get through. but the scenes with and about hattie were incredibly moving 🥹

I cannot bring myself to care about this girl’s problems. I don’t feel like reading annoying white boys being racist like we’re in 2016 again. I’ve seen that on my tl. We’ve had those conversations. I think YA is not for me anymore :(

It was amazing. It was completely sweet and funny. I literally never wanted to put it down🥲.

Quinn was a little cringe and a lost black girl. I say lost in the sense that she had a lot of white friends who often just categorised her as white even though she wasn't. She went through most things that every black girl goes through and she never felt like she had enough black friends (to be fair, she didn't have any in the beginning of the book).

Carter is hot, funny, sexy and lowkey reminds me of Malakai from Honey and Spice. Not in the way his character is, but in the way he treats the women in his life and the girl he loves.

Quinn has a journal (note, I also have a diary, need to burn it😭), she writes down EVERYTHING in there. Carter accidentally takes it and loses it resulting in someone blackmailing her to do what's on her list. She eventually finds it (spoiler, it's the white bitch who's racist and petty). In the process, she finds who she is without the journal and makes amazing black friends along with a whitey who isn't too bad (jokes, we love auden).

I found myself smiling half the time and laughing in the middle of class so this book was extraordinary. If a book can make me laugh... it has my thumbs up.
