Great read. You get a real insight into the chaos and confusion of modern warfare. Read this before the movie came out, which is also highly recommended.

Incredible. As I read the first hand accounts, I felt I was just about there with them. I'm so glad this book was written the way it was written and with the meticulous care Bowden gave to it. I only wish he had included a guide to remember which soldier was which.

One of the very stories of a military operation. It's a must-read by anyone interested in the modern military.

This book made Bowden one of my favorite authors. I remember the footage on TV, I remember watching the soldiers' bodies being dragged through the streets, I remember hearing "Somalia" on TV and not quite understanding what was going on.
This is one of the few instances when I found the movie to be as moving as the book. (I also happened to love the soundtrack. This one hit the trifecta!)

If all you want is the story and some action, watch the movie. Taking a point off for writing style that just didn't jive with me. The epilogue made the book worth reading. Brutally raw and the after action reporting were just what I wanted.
