DNF’d @ 52%
Not even my daddy issues could make me finish this book. Also I’m not totally anti-soldier because I understand that the US has made war a fast way of “escaping” poverty in exchange for your soul, but something about the way this man feels like a killer for accidentally letting his best friend die while never acknowledging to himself that he’s a killer because he was a soldier in an unjust war and killed dozens (if not hundreds) of innocent people in rubs me the wrong way.
I hope that’s addressed later in the story, but I can’t stand this book enough to finish it.

I could not get into this , it was not want I was wanting from this book. I wanted it to be a slow burn , but the priest was in instalove and completely forgot his values , it was unrealistic for me. DNF for me at around 30%. The plot was also unrealistic it didn’t flow for me.

Dark Temptress and a Priest

This book called me to as soon as I read the blurb. The brooding guilt ridden priest doing his best to atone for his sins. I also love the idea that unbeknownst to him, one of those roosters are coming home to roost.

Young Gabriel Thorne left 10 years ago with his best friend Luke to serve in the navy but he returned with his soul crushed and needed something to live for.
Gabriel found purpose again serving the community as a Catholic priest but he was still plagued with nightmares from his time as a navy seal.

Father Gabriel encounters Blue who is turning tricks and his savior complex takes over. Little does he know that Blue has set it up to cross paths because she came to exact retribution against him. This begins a game of cat and mouse intended to dismantle Father Gabriel’s life and ultimately destroy him.

I have to admit that i didn’t find Blue so clever that a navy seal couldn’t see though her many machinations. I’m also unsure if it was genuine lust and love or was it his desire to rewrite his past and make atonement.
I also didn’t find their chemistry compelling more than a priest reacting to his 10 year of celibacy itch. This story did a lot of telling and not enough showing. I wanted a little more angst and emotional connection, and i wanted more time with Blue and Gabriel trying to figure this thing out.
They could have been developed more and this one could have been much darker as Blue capitulated so easily after Gabriel told her about his crimes. I just wanted a little more of the confessional scene type debauchery.
The ending was really a sweet and heartwarming conclusion to a story full of pain and remorse.

I was very, very excited about this book. Anything forbidden and taboo is always right up my alley. Gabriel is man who wants to repent for a grevious past mistake. And so, he became a priest to atone. Years after that one tragic mistake, his past comes back to torment him.
Mariana is a young woman set on revenge. Her life has been hard and she knows nothing but poverty and abandonment. She finds Gabriel for one reason only; to avenge her father. She plans on seducing him, making him break his vows and then take her revenge. Will her plan work or will feelings get in the way?
The book started out with a bang. I will be honest and say I did not like the heroine. I just couldn't connect with her. Another issue I had was the insta-lust that Gabriel experienced from the first moment he saw Mariana. I wanted it to be more of a slow burn. I wanted to feel the torment of the forbidden feelings. Sadly, I didn’t get that. What I really loved was the ending. That's when I really felt for the heroine. It was the best part of the book.
Overall, it was a fast paced forbidden read that lovers of the taboo will love.
3 Stars from me!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
