So I really haven't read much of this series. I've saved them for days when I feel like, what I think of as, a classic vampire romance. That being said this was a pretty good read. The first half was phenomenal, it stuttered a bit for me at about 70% and the end didn't do much for me at all. So that's why the three stars. If it had been like the first half all the way through I would have hands down given it a 5, but overall this was definitely a good read and worth the time of any vampire romance enthusiast.

Steaminess: I consider this book mild with steaminess compared to the other books I’ve read so far in this series.

Cliffhanger: No.

Standalone or Series: It’s part of a series. Each follows a new couple.

Trope: Fated Mates.

Do I recommend this book? I would recommend this to readers that are Christine Feehan fans and love Paranormal Romance. If you also love the Fated Mates tropes, then I would recommend these books to you too. I’m liking these books, but not falling in love with them as I have with Kresley Cole’s IAD series and J.R. Ward’s BDB series. I’m not giving up, though. I’m hoping to find my favorite couple in the series. I will say this it’s not your sparkly kind of vampire story, so get that out of your head before reading this series. Christine Feehan writes her vampire/Carpathian stories with darkness in it, which is one of many reasons why I’m going to keep reading these books.

The lack of story in this book was unexpected because usually I feel like Feehan is a pretty thorough author, however in this book she lays out the bones of the story, but she never quite puts the skeleton together.

This was not that bad in the series. I continued and though I still found this a difficult book to finish I did find it more interesting. I also found that I did want to find out what would happen to the main characters in this book. However it was boring at times so I would not recommend it.

I got 66% of the way through this book which in this case should definitely count toward books read, it was painful to push through that far. This book is a how-to of domestic abuse. I only made it as far as I did because I was certain I was missing something. Nothing romantic about this story.

Alex, the heroine, pulled some really stupid thstunts in here. Like, really, really stupid. And yet...I managed to like her well enough. She loved her brother, Joshua, more than anything, she was independent, and talented. Aidan, the Carpathian hero, needed endless patience to deal with her, though, since she could also be extremely childish. I loved Aidan for his patience, his loyalty to those he cared for, and how seriously he took his duties. Watching these two learn to be partners made for good reading, even if it did take Alex almost the whole book to stop being an idiot. I loved Jashua, and Aidan's housekeeper and her husband, Marie and Stefan. The beginning chapters in this book were utterly gripping. They were super-intense with all that action and emotion, and it made this story hard to put down. Overall, this was really good, with Alex being what brought things down.

So, I did it again - I listened to another Carpathian audiobook - although, Juanita Parker got somewhat better with her pronunciations - thank god there was no mention of Jacques (pronounced "Jock" by Ms. Parker) in this novel - I wouldn't have been able to take it again.

The storyline, however, I again liked better the the novel preceding it. At least in my own opinion, Feehan is getting better and better in her writing (yes, I know these were written long ago, but I'm just getting to them now, okay?) I just think she needs a few new phrases - there was so much usage of "pure seduction" and "her feminine core" that I found myself sighing every time it was mentioned - is there really no other way to say either of those?!

Alas, I will still be continuing on my Carpathian journey.

OK storyline, but simplistic writing.

2.5 - I’m not a huge fan of the heroines who fall limp at the heroes feet but this lady was just mean at times. The last 20% sort of redeemed the book.

Although I did enjoy this story, I agree with CandyDarling and Auglaise (I read this as a bookring on Bookcrossing) with the feeling I have read it all before. The same characters over and over. I do like Feehan's writing style, but I am getting annoyed with the "beautiful independent virgins" and the "chavaunistic Carpathian males" -- they say there aren't many female Carpathians around, but doesn't say there are none. So, how bout a "Hunky Male Virgin" and the "independent Female Carpathian"???
