I’ve wanted to read this since I first heard about it. It’s both well written and poorly finished. This is, of course, the sad result of the author’s unexpected and very early death. The recent arrest and subsequent media saturation has stolen a little of this book’s thunder, unfortunately. None the less, I think it does a great job of humanizing the victims and explaining the facts. No matter her level of involvement in solving the case, I really wish there was an after life just so she could see this unfold. To have been so engrossed in something and yet have passed so soon before the mystery was revealed and the murderer is locked up, makes you feel even more sad about her death.

Such a well written book with beautiful prose and a fiction like way of story telling. I'm so glad they finished this book and released it in honor of Michelle McNamara. A chilling and captivating read!

This was a re-read for me--never disappoints. It's still so sad that we lost such a brilliant writer too soon.

This true crime book read like a suspenseful work of fiction. The early chapters legitimately haunted me and made me look over my shoulder and double check my window and door locks at night. This work highlights further the tragedy of losing Michelle so young as she was an incredible researcher, thinking, and writer. I finished this book 5 days days before the caught the Golden State Killer and it was so eerie. The last letter in the book is a forever memorable one. Highly recommend for anyone interested in true crime!

Very comprehensive and well put together, respectful of the victims, law enforcement, and all involved/affected while weaving in the emotions and terrible details of the GSK. McNamara created a true crime novel/memoir but remained above board rather than falling to simple reliance on the gory, shocking details of the crimes and their impact.

I admire Michelle McNamara's friends and family who posthumously published her life's work for her after her sudden passing in 2016. Their part, part 3, definitely had a more technical feel to it but I enjoyed the education on the amateur sleuth network and geographical profiling.

Very interesting to read this and "I Know Who You Are: How an Amateur DNA Sleuth Unmasked the Golden State Killer and Changed Crime Fighting Forever" by forensic genealogist Barbara Rae-Venter, because of the timeline of the case and we can see the emergence of new technologies changing the tide like McNamara (and friends) closed her book on.

This isn’t a bad book by any means, in fact I think it’s quite well done, I’m just finding that I’m not interested in reading true crime right now. Might come back to it later.
