Sophie's dad is getting married to Maggie, a kind woman who wants to join in on the Sophie-Dad activity of cooking/baking up a storm, and is asked to be the flower girl; naturally, she misinterprets it as the "flour" girl and starts leaving flour in all of Maggie's belongings.

The beginning of the book just jumps into the story, so young readers may be a bit confused as to why the story starts out with an image of Sophie looking concerned as she peers out the window.

When Dad gets angry at Sophie's behavior, Maggie, trying to look on the bright side, seems to suggest that Sophie wasn't acting out of anger or jealousy despite that being exactly how Sophie was acting.

The messages seem to be a bit mixed but nonetheless, it's an overall sweet tale of a modern family and the types of things families are having to deal with in this day and age.
