The novel gets 5 stars for a wonderful world building, interesting characters, clashes of skill and wit and writing that pulls me in and makes me cry.

The illustrated edition gets 1 star. Only one illustration is anywhere near the text it describes, the paper is such quality that you can see the text through it which is annoying to making it impossible to read when the lines are out of sync and the price was not worth the experience.

Initially, I struggled with the slow pace and dense prose. But with the help of the audiobook, I got over that hurdle and devoured the rest of the book. So I really enjoyed ‘Assassin’s Apprentice’ and am looking forward to the next entry.

This book was an excellent beginning to what seems to be a promising series. It was a slow burn, but started paying off towards the end. I expected there to be more action and high points, and the lack of them is what gave this 4 stars.

The characters are all interesting. Fitz seems to be a little bit of a Mary Sue. The Fool is very intriguing, and I hope to see more of him.

The author has a unique writing style and manages to convey so much. The narration of this book was unlike anything I’ve ever read before.
