It’s been so long since I’ve finished a book I’m not even sure I remember how to write anything about them. This is probably the longest lull in my desire to read that I’ve experienced in quite some time. Highly unusual, highly unpleasant, but it is what it is.

Anyway, I finally got through my first May book and I’m grateful it was a good one! The Huntress is fast-paced, compelling, and has a little something for everyone. Action and adventure; mystery and murder; love and romance; philosophy and existential reflection… You name it, Kate Quinn has you covered with this one.

It’s 1950 and The Huntress, a Nazi war criminal and vile murderess, has thus far escaped punishment. Despite her seeming endless ability to disappear without a trace, the unquenchable desire for justice brings a small group of ragtag individuals together in pursuit of this elusive villain… Ian Graham, famous English journalist turned Nazi hunter; Tony Rodomovsky, war veteran and beloved assistant Nazi hunter; and Nina Markova, Russian U2 bomber pilot, pseudo assistant Nazi hunter, and accidental Mrs. Ian Graham.

It’s not as complicated as it sounds, I promise.

Meanwhile, in the good old US of A, we meet up with Jordan McBride and her doting, widowed father, Daniel McBride. Having lived alone since Jordan’s mother passed away, they’re experiencing a few growing pains when it comes to welcoming Daniel’s mysterious new wife (along with her young daughter Ruth) into the family.

Worlds collide, sparks fly, blood is shed, and at the end of the day, justice…… *may or may not prevail.* No spoilers! Read the book!

The characters leapt off the pages, and the parts about the Night Witches were particularly enthralling. There’s some very well done creeping tension around the location of the Huntress (the titular Nazi war criminal), and the ending was wonderful and well-won.

Love love love books about strong females and this book is chock full of them! I found myself even liking the villain, just because of her perseverance. The one downfall of the book is the epilogue, everyone ends up together and happy, with would be BS in reality.

This was exceptional WWII fiction. In a crowded field often filled with tropes this stands out to me like Hannah’s The Nightengale with strong female leads, quick moving plot and honest examination of the circumstances of the post-WWII. Loved it, will be passing my copy around to all my friends.
