I found the title of this book to be terribly misleading, as is the book’s description. The story starts with the girls arriving at Pearl a day or two before the attack. One hundred thirty pages later they are being shipped out to Africa where the book finishes 200 (+/-) pages later. I had wanted to read about the nurses and their caring for the injured of Pearl Harbor, but what I got was a romance novel thinly hidden in a few historical facts and was a disappointment. Did I finish it? Yes. Did I skip more than 5 pages? Oh yes. Were there things I liked about the book? Also yes. I did enjoy the dynamics of the sisters, April and Grace. Did I feel emotionally attached to any of them? Nope. Not even a smidgen.
If you’re looking for a war time romance where everything gets wrapped up in a neat little package with a bow (in the last 10 pages, no less), you might like this one. If you’re looking for a historical fiction (with a touch of romance) this isn’t the one.
