Very readable, violent, interesting. Not your normal ghost or slasher story. Brings some aspects of different religions into the story.

Masterton does it again. A supernatural historical force, mixed with a little Santeria and detective fiction for good measure, provides a fun and thrilling story.

I will give this book some credit: The concept is good, and the gore is especially gory.

Besides, that...not that good.

Every single name drop of something famous made me cringe. Some of them didn't even make sense: since when did either Ghostbusters 1 or 2 involve a seance? Is Lord of the Rings somehow representative of Urban Fantasy elements? Bigger than that, however, is the problem I had with the main character, who just seems to accept everything and recover very quickly from seeing incredibly violent things happen to other characters. The writing in particular is very tell not show, which was also frustrating. I think I'll be skipping the rest of Masterton's works, unfortunately.

Small note: I don't know how accurate or respectful this book's portrayal of Santeria is. I would either have to do more research or defer to an expert.
