From the moment Nena Knight was introduced, I was scared of her. She was violent—killing a 20 year old bystander—but also nuanced, minutes later freeing a trafficked teenager. Over the course of the story, we see Nena question, explore, and transform in a way that was enlightening to read. While I could figure out where the story was going, Angoe wrote in a way that made me want to see how Nena got from Point A to Point B. Even with a somewhat formulaic plot, Angoe delivered a satisfying ending with a message of healing, redemption, and second chances.

Strong female characters done well. They're different with different strengths and real flaws and they support each other. It's beautiful. I know the surface story is about avenging her family but what I really took away from it were the connections she made. Not that that is an excuse to violently lose your home and family in the way that she did. The author's writing style is addictive and I had trouble putting it down.
