“Can I copy your homework?”
“Sure, but don’t make it too obvious.”

Except for the ending (which I did like), this was borderline plagiarism instead of a retelling. Even the writing style, which I had to struggle past, was a poor imitation of the original prose.

Not your standard vampire story by any means. So if you are here for the gore, you might want to move on to the next book. That being said if you are thinking you are picking this up for some great lesbian vampire erotica, next book for you too.

There is some spice, but it honestly tame for the most part. Beautifully written, but tame.

My only complaint with the book is it did not flow well for my brain, and read very disjointed. The prose is still beautiful, but I found myself having to go back and re-read multiple passages.

you already know i'm a slut for carmilla retellings. and i really liked this one! admittedly it's been a hot second since I read the original and at the beginning of this i was nervous bc it seemed too similar to the original, but it forked away with some real interesting changes! i'm all for taking the tragedy and warning out of classic lesbian stories. also all for lesbians being evil :))

You know what, I really enjoyed this retelling. I read Carmilla for the first time last year and this did not disappoint. It felt very true to the original while making it more explicitly queer and I loved that.
