Sorry, This is a very unpopular opinion, it seems, but I found the language way too dense, I couldn't read past the second page.

Elinor is as prudent as her sister Marianne is impetuous. Each must learn from the other after they are forced by their father's death to leave their home and enter into the contests of polite society. The charms of unsuitable men and the schemes of rival ladies mean that their paths to success are thwart with disappointment but together they attempt to find a way to happiness.

do not read unless you want to spend very many pages debating whether you are a marianne or an elinor... still undecided, unfortunately. anyway, seriously enjoyed austen's first (??!!!!!!) published work (that fact alone is astonishing). very relatable older sister content, colonel brandon is *almost* as good as when being played by alan rickman, edward, however, did not live up to his 1995 movie adaptation characterisation. reading this book really evidenced the fact of what an outrageously good adaptation the 1995 sense and sensibility is-

anyway - this book was an utter joy to read, loved every second. only thing I didn't love was it was slightly repetitive at times, which I think was a necessary part of it, and the conclusion was a bit too quick and resolved a little too easily? didn't really take anything away from the overall narrative, however. can't wait for my next austen
