I wanted to like this one ... but I felt like it was the weakest one of this first set so far. One Eye had so much potential to be a good villain ... but instead he gets both introduced and killed off in the same book. Also i felt like the sickness was underused. The entire book felt like it was set up and resolved way too easy and way too fast compared to the first three where the conflict was spread over three books and the conflicts are clearly set up and take time to evolve. Also the romances in this one are just awful. Gray Wing seems to move on from Turtle Tail's death awfully fast, he mourns her at the beginning and when the spirits come to visit but he seems to fall in love with Slate instantly - the relationship doesn't really get a chance to develop because they see each other a few times she saves him from a fox and he is suddenly in love- and don't get me started on Thunder and Star Flower. That one was even worse, they sit and talk a few times, she praises him and tells him that he is the best cat in the forest and bam - he is instantly in love with her and wants to have kits with her. The only romance I loved in this book was Jagged Peak and Holly because it took time to develop even though it mostly developed off screen. And the bonus chapters save this book just a little bit because they happen back in the Tribe so that's good.
