First, what a gorgeous cover! I absolutely love it.
I wanted to read Bone Crier’s Moon as soon as I read the book’s synopsis. It sounded intriguing and actually a little different from the last fantasy novels I’ve read, while also promising an exciting enemies-to-lover romance. I also always love books that take place in France or are inspired by it, so I was all in!
It wasn’t completely love, sadly, but I still really enjoyed some aspects of it. The world and its mythology were probably my favorite part. I wanted to see more of it. I felt there was a richness there and would have loved to explore more of it. All the elements were there to create a lush and engrossing world. I loved the rituals and everything to do with the bones and their powers, I was fascinated.
Sadly, one of the most important aspect didn’t work for me, and that is the romance. I can’t pinpoint why, exactly, but I didn’t believe in Ailesse and Bastien’s change of mind and the feelings they had for each other. It happened a bit too suddenly for me, and their chemistry was almost absent.
I’m also not completely sure of how I felt about the three different points of view. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Sabine (she was my favorite in fact), but I felt she was used more as a storytelling device, as a way to tell us what was happening when Ailesse or Bastien weren’t there.
I wasn’t sure, as I neared the end, whether I would want to read book 2 of the duology; but then the book ended on quite a mystery that had me rethinking several aspects of the story! So even though this book wasn’t quite what I had been hoping for, I’ll probably borrow the sequel from the library when it’s out. I need to know whether some of my theories are true!

Gonna admit I might be biased for giving five stars but this was a solid read for me when a lot of other young adult reads have failed recently. Enemies to Lovers, soulmates, soulbonds, action, bit of family drama, forced proximity. I couldn't ask for more.

You can find this review of Bone Crier's Moon on my blog, Heart's Content!
Received an Advanced Reader’s Copy from the publisher, Katherine Tegen Books, via Edelweiss+ in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
First off, I have a confession. I utterly misread the blurb--meaning I had no idea that the book featured three protagonists and I presumed that the heroine was Sabine and had no awareness of Ailesse. Then, I realize the book has a three person perspective it switches between--something I'm in general wary about. I was definitely entering this book with a lot of doubts and preparing to find it difficult to read.
So, imagine my surprise, when I fall in love with Sabine on page one. There was a certain gentle fierceness in her that I immediately fell in love with. There was another part of her personality that I absolutely adored, which was that she was capable of holding an opinion--perhaps even an unpopular one--while being aware and respectful of the path that her and her kind were meant to follow. There was absolutely no contempt in her mind seeing the others following their path, despite her dislike to do so. Perhaps it was this compassion in her that made her the person who could look past what is and see what was. Her character and growth, I feel was done rather well, without making the reader feel that it was unrealistic as we see her choices swivel in the direction she always thought she wouldn't/couldn't follow.
Ailesse was a little harder to connect to at first--despite moments of sorrow and pain you feel for her--because she was stubborn in her thoughts and almost insensitive in her faith. You come to understand however, why she was the way she was and her character arc too was very interesting to watch. She grows too, to see the possible futures, thoughts and emotions that lay beyond just being a "Bone Crier worth her bones". Bastien too was someone with whom you don't particularly struggle to connect to, as his motives and vengeance are clear and anyone would empathize with them. His and Ailesse's story was doomed from the very beginning and you grow into their relationship just like they do.
More than anything else in this book, I have to commend the pacing that just absolutely never lets up. Despite it being a rather big book, I was all but racing through it and there was never a dull moment and gosh all the surprises! They just keep coming and they're almost always never expected. I do admit, I went into the book expecting an enemies-to-lovers romance trope and yes, that was there, but I honestly wasn't in it for the romance at all; and coming from a romance buff, you can imagine just how good the book was if it wasn't the romance that kept me interested.
Five stars, I can't think of a single thing the bothered me about this book. Except the antagonist, of course. FIVE STARS THROUGH AND THROUGH. Highly recommend. Just start the first page, and you won't ever stop. Highly recommend.

Prior to its release, Bone Crier's Moon was definitely a highly anticipated book release for me. Unfortunately, while I didn't truly hate Bone Crier's Moon, I was ultimately incredibly disappointed and frustrated by this book for many, many, many reasons. The jury is still out on whether or not I'm going to be continuing with this series.
My rating/score: 2 out of 5 Stars on the Goodreads rating system, and 4 out of 10 on my own personal scoring system.

The Leuress or Bone Criers are a cult of women who ferry the dead into the afterlife. But before they may become a ferrier they must acquire the a bone from 3 animals slain by their own hand so as to acquire their magic, and also they kill their soulmate.
One night during a full moon, Sebastian witnessed his father be seduced and killed in cold blood by a Bone Crier. He has been training himself, and is finally ready to hunt one down to take his revenge. Ailesse has desired to become a ferrier and is ready to finally meet, and kill her own soulmate.
Both are awaiting the net full moon to finally fulfill their vows.
Honestly, I was immediately riveted. It started out fast paced and I was completely taken in by the world building and magic; very atmospheric and almost gothic in mood. The story slows down a bit midway so as to do a little character developing and to allow for the passage of time. The characters were likable, but did more to move the story along than anything. I wasn't overly attached to anyone in particular. Overall I was very entertained, and am looking forward to reading the conclusion in the net book.
Content was very clean of sexual content and foul language.
Does contain non graphic violence.

I finish this at 8:00 pm. Finish a 450+ page book in half a day, pretty proud of myself.
FYI I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! My new favorite book!
Okay so let me just say, this story is very much like Serpent & Dove. The magic system remind me of it. As well as the use of religion (not the same god, but there is a big aspect of religion in both books), enemies to lover romance, the mother bond.
But I find this book was so much better than Serpent & Dove. Because the characters were so amazing. In my opinion, they were crafted so well. Ailesse fiery passion. Bastion thirst for revenge. Sabine soft nature. But there is so much more that lies beneath. I fell in love with the characters right at the start. Although let me get this straight, I don’t like Jules. I get she has good intention but she is also quite selfish, and impulsive.
Now talking about the relationship, Bastien and Ailesse relationship is the cutest thing ever. I love them so much. Then reading about the friendship bond between Sabine and Ailesse, it’s everything I love in a novel.
The writing style and plot was easy to get into. I was so fascinated with the magic system and the religious aspect of this world. I must say the world building is not the best, only the magic system was explained throughly the rest of the world lies a mystery. Nonetheless, I still love this world (there is a map so it does help). The writing style is perfect, in my opinion. It’s not too flowery or descriptive, it’s just get things going and I love it. The distinction between the different viewpoint was also very clear.
This book got me out of my reading slump and I’m so thankful. But now I can’t stop thinking about it, and the characters. How am I supposed to do my homework and pay attention in class now?
In conclusion, I adore this book so much. If you like Serpent & Dove then I would recommend you read this book.

finally a book to get me out of my reading slump.
in a different world, this would be a 4.5 rating, but alas we are in this one, so it's gonna be a 5. it's better than some of my other 5 stars, but it's also worse than others. right in the middle.
one thing about this book, it is SO FAST PACED. which i love. they'd discover or reveal one thing, then it'd be used/resolved in the next chapter. not a ton of big mysteries, no windy paths, non connfusion, easy to follow. yes. that's all i want in a book, for the most part. there is a central mystery kinda, but i felt like it was overshadowed by other parts of this book (that i liked better).
i started this book thinking there would be alove triangle , which i dont love, but this didn't really have that. yay :) the romance in this book was more subtle than i had wanted, but i enjoyed it nonetheless.
as with most books with multiple POVs, i found myself looking forward to Ailesse's and Bastien's more than Sabine's, especially since there were two separate parts to the story and i just preferred the romance part between Ailesse and Bastien.
for a book that took me a day to read 54 out of the 56 chapters, i can't deny that i very much enjoyed this book.
