The overall quality of the book holds up to its predecessors. Sapkowski is consistent and brilliant. However

the scope of the plot makes this book feel like a transitional move for the series. The intrigue and action are pervasive as ever, but the overall effect feels like this book is a stepping stone for what’s to come.

I’m left eager for what’s to come in the next book.

This one dragged for the first half. It picked up a bit in the second half, but it’s moved away from Geralt and monster-hunting and into more political intrigue. I’m excited to see what happens next for Ciri. I do think the SA scene was completely unnecessary and poorly handled.
