After the curtain began to be pulled back in book 2, I was definitely expecting to learn more about the organization in this book. I did not expect ... this book. The two stories that are woven together in the "Then/Now" that we've come to know with this series are heart-wrenching, both in the empathy they draw out from the reader for both Felix and Mercy, as well as the futility that comes to embody their journeys - much as they struggle against it.

This book is an absolute marvel for this series, as well as an illustration of just how difficult some decisions can be, both to make and to change and/or give up.

With a fourth book coming, there is no happy ending just yet for Felix. Though, he does get some reprieve ... and perhaps a little vengeance of his own, too.

In this book, E. A. Copen has written another heart-wrenching and psychologically terrifying book that leaves the reader incapable of putting it down. I'm still not sure whether I'm happy about that or not, though. Either way, despite the terror that I know will keep coming, I will keep reading ... and hoping for a good final outcome for Felix and Sean. After 10 years of torture, I think they both deserve that.
