The best Sharing Knife book so far... I might have to continue with Horizon.

I enjoyed the river boat journey aspect and the new cast of characters.

The most interesting part of this series is the culture clash/rift between farmers and Lakewalkers. I'm so glad it's complex and not black and white "good guys vs bad guys"

So far, each book in this series has been better than its predecessor. LMB continues to build her world's mythos and magic system while still keeping everything rooted in everyday relationships. The inclusion of multiple likable characters made this book even more enjoyable to read. Though there's not much of a villain and not much action, I still found the book to be thoroughly engaging.

I enjoyed this book more than the first two installments of this series. Bujold masterfully added to the cast of diverse characters throughout the course of the book in interesting and enjoyable ways. The plot pacing is good and the river setting is a treat.

First of all I just noticed Whit on that cover and he's supposed to be shorter than Berry. To some degree there were less fantasy elements in this one. It was mostly a journey book. But still, pacing was better. And the cast of characters was richer. And we got to see more of the magic system, even if it did feel just a bit arbitrary. And its focus is just such a different one than the standard fantasy book. 3.5 of 5.
