I feel bad for giving this story a 3.5 since it is one of believe needs to be heard as I'm always glad to see more Latin-American representation but I am just not the target audience for this story at all. Overall, the plot and everything was good, I just didn't quite connect with it.

This book had tone and message issues. The first half of this book was challenging to get through thanks to the main character. She was a brat! The second half was quite enjoyable. This book only changed course after a death in the family which doesn't sit right with me at all. No one should have to die for you to embrace your heritage. Being weird is not the same as being bratty. This book lacked nuance and Honduran traditions.

Solid and sweet, but lacking in any real excitement. Still, the drama was well done and the real understanding of what it means to be a Latine 1st generation American is really nicely done.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! I loved the main character being outside the norm. I loved her relationship with her grandmother, something I can relate to. This book has such great representation from Latinx culture.
