Perfect mix of suspense, creepiness, and good characters. Sarah Piper is a down-on-her-luck young woman who's recruited by Alastair Gellis to help him hunt and eliminate a ghost on behalf of Mrs. Clare, whose barn the ghost is haunting. As Sarah, Alastair, and Alastair's friend and other assistant learn more about the ghost, they realize her name is Maddy, and she's a 19-year-old woman who had a short and tragic life. It's revealed she had something horrible happen to her, and they're going to have to get to the bottom of it if they want to give Maddy or the humans she's haunting some peace. Along the way, Sarah and Alastair become closer, and that comes into play when something happens to Alastair and they have to care for him together. Great read.

I don’t read a lot of ghost/haunting books but I really enjoyed this book! The romance definitely helped lol It is predictable. But I still enjoyed watching it all play out.

I appreciated how the author kept true to the times. On the flip side of that, I was annoyed at how Sarah was a “I’m just a fragile woman, protect me big strong man” type character. Can’t have it both ways I guess.

I wouldn’t consider myself a believer of ghosts, but I liked how ghosts/apparitions were described as an energy.

Anyways, very worth the read!
