You can tell this is the middle book in a trilogy. I am holding out hopes that the final book will pull everything together in a more interesting and exciting fashion. This book meanders with no real storyline and nothing terribly much happens. The hawks, hounds and horses were the best part of the book as well as the Irish setting.

Overall I loved it but she almost lost me with potatoes in Ireland in 1268 on page 9. NONONONONO. It wasn't until 1570 that the Spanish brought them back to Europe and I found that link in 2 seconds.

It's entertaining but nothing deep.

I’ll start by saying I liked the first book better than this one – but I still liked it.

What was missing in this book, for me, was the romance between Connor and Meara – it seemed a bit weak. I liked the travels to meet ancestors and all the magic involved, but the romance lacked. Maybe because, for me, they seemed better as individual characters than as a couple. The friendship and companionship is still one of the best things about this book.

Still, it was a good book, that left me wanting more and it left me anxious to read the next one!

These books are fun, but just okay. I think the Nora Roberts has books with better romantic chemistry, better magic systems, etc. I do think that in the scene with Meara and her father was well done, but that was the only truly, remotely emotional portion of the book.

I really enjoyed this book. Like most of Nora Roberts' series' it follows the same format which makes it a bit predictable. That being said I still enjoy all the books I read by her. The characters are loveable and their back stories are believable. The setting for this series is beautiful Ireland and I just wished I was there every time I picked up the book. Though I liked the first novel Dark Witch, I liked this one even more so. I am excited to read the next!
