The mystery continues to unfold and grows more vast at the same time. Each nugget of information gained only makes more questions arise. I love this series. Will probably binge read it as fast as I can acquire the volumes.
One of the things I've been enjoying a lot is the discussion of "eye for an eye" because it causes a never ending loop of violence. The original perpetrators and their victims are in a vicious cycle of harming each other. We see this when a sorcerer (who was killed by Caiman, who went to The Hole to experiment/practice magic on humans) is reanimated by one of the humans and the former sorcerer partner is seeking revenge and sees this monstrosity of his dead friend and thinks how inhumane it is...

In this volume we get Shin's backstory of growing up in The Hole and how his dad was human and his mom a sorcerer. Ten years ago he was found out and his dad murdered so he went on a killing spree and also Kasukabe helped restore his smoke pathways/channels/fumillaries which he cut off his arms with a laser scalpel to find to conjure smoke. After his revenge on the neighborhood patrol he escaped to the sorcerer dimension but not before stealing gyoza from a little Nikaido. Also, you can find black jewels in the bodies of human magic victims (but not in sorcerers?). Fujita's magic is to make smoke balls flyand it's low powered. There are three ways to remove magic: have the sorcerer who cast it nullify it, kill the sorcerer, and there is also a sorcerer named Chota who can dispel someone else's magic. Ebisu changed into a lizard and back again and remember that the man in Caiman's mouth said that she was the one who "stopped" him, but from what? Risu had a partner that was not affiliated with the cross eyes named Aikawa. Caiman heads back to the sorcerer realm alone and Nikaido goes looking for him
