There's a good reason it's a classic. Charming.

Comes across as dated but having been published in 1930 I think it has a lovely message and perseverance and that we can all achieve if we put our mind to it. So many books since have shared this message but I do wonder if this is one of the first.

This is still a wonderfully inspiring story.

Apparently the writing and art has been redone. So you may not be seeing the same book. The idea is a good one and I'm sure there's a version out there as good as I remembered. But the original art isn't it, and the redrawn and rewritten one isn't it either. I remember a version in which there was some doubt at the top if the little blue engine was really going to make it. Maybe I imagined it.

This was a cute little story about being kind and believing in yourself, knowing that with courage you can accomplish anything. My kids loved it and they saw through the engines who didn’t want to help and knew that wasn’t the right thing to do.

They were really happy and amazed that at the end there was finally someone who wanted to help in-spite of her size, they saw that she was able to accomplish something big. Definitely a really sweet story about perseverance. It felt a little redundant but a lot of kids books are.

This was my favorite as a child. My Dad had to read it to me over and over.

I hadn't realized there was an edited version. Not as good as the full one, but still good to read, especially if the child loves trains!
