Loved this novella! Toadling and Halim are both very sweet in their own ways, the magic and worldbuilding were intriguing, and the changeling stuff (no spoilers) is all equally dark/creepy and quirky/fun (as expected from Kingfisher). I love Sleeping Beauty retellings, especially when they are so twisted and not what you'd expect. I would love to see a sequel or companion book to follow Thornhedge because there were some ominous hints at potential connected conflicts... and also because I want to read about their next adventure. I would say more, but I don't want to give too many spoilers.

Also, shoutout to whatever genius designed the physical book because it's gorgeous and the toad is adorable.

I enjoyed the atmosphere created in the story, and the narration was great. The story itself was interesting, the world building and the characters, but I felt like toadling could have moved faster and she wouldn't have been trapped so long. There's no reason given as to why she feels so inadequate when she's been loved by her adopted family and that's a but jarring for me. Nobody has truly disparaged her for her to be so insecure. Halim was sweet and cute.
