This was a juicy little domestic thriller that was quite good and kept me interested the entire way through.
Told through the viewpoints of 3 different characters, all connected to the same marketing firm in some capacity, helped to add a lot of depth to the story and they intertwined well throughout. There were times when the story felt a bit slow and there wasn't much going on, but that didn't last very long and the story picked up soon enough.
I was certain I had this one figured out about 3/4 of the way through, but I was pleasantly surprised by a much deeper final act that gave the character's stories so much more gravity and was very satisfying.
Overall all the characters that were highlighted had depth, were somewhat easy to root for (Laura was one I did struggle with for a while until the pieces started falling into place), and proved important to the overall story, and I very much enjoyed this story!

I am really surprised with how much I enjoyed this read! I think this novel had a really great mystery and I loved the tension that was built within the novel. For me, the characters were what really brought the novel to an enjoyable experience. I love that we followed three women who had all made the decision between their careers and their families. The entire beginning portion of the novel was captivating and I loved the discussions Perks was bringing forth on this topic. This made the characters feel a lot more nuanced and motivated from other mystery/thrillers I have read from before. I empathized with each of them individually in a way that made me root and worry for all of them. All of them had differing motivations that pushed the mystery and it made the novel much more readable. In the end however, the final 15% of the book was a bit of a let down for me. The grand finale was a bit anticlimactic and I wish it was resolved a bit better. As well, there are a lot of discrepancies between the audiobook and the written book - sometimes this being entire paragraphs that just were not in the physical copy. I also noticed a lot of errors in the physical copy as well that I think could have caused major confusions for some readers (one that comes to mind is the detective using the name of one woman when we are reading an interview with another woman). I still really enjoyed this and would recommend it, but just keep in mind that this is not my usual genre.
Graphic: Sexual assault and Sexual harassment
