Quite a change in tone from the first volume. I like a series that can change genres, and in theory a medical mystery thriller is a fun idea. Unfortunately I came here for sword fights and weird monsters and this novel tries to do the whole "man is the real monster" thing.
Sexual violence is a stable of the vampire genre and it was present in the first volume but here it's constant and there's nothing else going on to make up for it. It also feels gratuitous and borderline pornographic at times. I like darker fiction but getting through this was a struggle.
