I ABSOLUTELY ADORED this book. I read it in two and a half days. It quite literally laughed and cried many many times. One of my new favorites.

For a ya book, I really like how all the characters were written so realistically! Even the ones who you can’t help but love still had their flaws that make you roll your eyes just like regular teens/young adults. Haha (Except Paul of course, he was perfect and I loved him) And on the flip side there are those characters who you hate (*ahem* William) and wish you could just reach through the book and choke, which doesn’t sound to appealing but I think everyone good book needs to have someone you can just despise. I also really enjoyed how the side characters had their own small stories for you to look forward and see how they turned out and weren’t purely written just to further the plot of Paul and Lorna.

As for the romance between Paul and Lorna: Ugh it was so beautiful and sweet!!! The chemistry was off the charts. It made me want to scream all girlish. lol It was nice to see Lorna change for the better and look past Paul’s outward appearance to see his kind heart and also get past her prejudices and realize not all Germans are Nazi’s, that people on every side of the war lost so much.

Overall I highly recommend to any people who enjoy historical romances. This is a really good one!

yes, I wasn't excited to read it after having read several books of the same genre in a row, but I really enjoyed it. I can't give it 5 stars only because I've only read it once and I don't know it's re-readbility.

Historical fiction? Check. Impossible love story? Check. Enjoyable read? Check. More than a passing mention of the Scottish dialect in a novel set in rural Scotland? No. I'm not a stickler for absolute accuracy in books. But, this novel could have just as easily been set in rural England. I think we can all agree that the Scottish dialect is quite unique, and it was replaced with 99% English as it is spoken in England, and very closely spoken in the US. But, it didn't distract from a sweet story about a farm girl and the German POW who is sent to work for her father. A good, easy read.

I have always been interested in World War 2. This novel was exactly what I needed.

This year so far, I have been focusing on this time of history.

What I really loved about this novel is at the end of the day, it really is about loving someone for them. Not their Nationality, their looks or anything like that.

It is about two people having a genuine connection and learning how to navigate this during a very difficult time.

I absolutely hope that Caroline continues writing more novels. I was hooked right from the start of this book.

Really a wonderful introduction to this genre and time period. It has some dark and gritty moments (as it should), but it also was filled with hope, joy and love.

I cannot recommend this novel enough! A Fantastic Read !
