Loved it. When I went to work I kept thinking “where is Monday?” It was so emotional and tense and I could not have guessed the twist. It was a great read, I can’t wait to one day forget the mystery and read it again. I pray for the day.

Well, that was not at all what I expected! This is not my favorite book by Jackson, mostly because of the back and forth time structure that was somewhat difficult to follow. I think the plot was shocking, revolting, and honest and the characters were gritty and real. This story would be a good read for hesitant teen readers because of its’ short chapters and engaging content.

I didn’t take the reviews seriously enough when they called this book heartbreaking.
It felt like my soul was being crunched up like gravel as the ending drew closer.

This was such a frustrating read. And it’s done on purpose to make you feel frustrated and helpless because it’s just so enraging that no one seems to care that this child has just vanished.

The way the story is told by changing between past and present was a nice touch, made more so once the big reveal happened.

For all the missing children, and for all the children who aren't believed, this story sings to the vulnerability and easy dismissal of children and their experiences that the adults just fail.

Devastatingly sad book. While reading it, and especially during the revelation of what really happened to Monday and what's going on with Claudia, it feels like a ball of grief and dread and horror lodges itself in your chest and then deflates leaving you hollowed out. This book will stay with me forever. Made me see a lot of things in a perspective I hadn't before. Like I have to say, though, I had a hard time empathizing with Claudia at first bc I'm always side eyeing characters that are like her, that are so possessive of their friends, so devoted, that their love is so aggressive and all consuming bc it weirds me out. It's definitely an on me reaction because, and I think I finally realized it reading this book, maybe my problem is that I give up too easily with most everything in my life bc I don't like being inconvenienced, and all that nonstop devotion of love, that outpouring all of yourself onto another person seems too much work, too exhausting and like putting yourself up to be hurt. So all my life I've been a loner, I've never had a best friend like Monday. I've never had many friends to begin with bc I've always closed myself off to others for many reasons. But this book made me appreciate people like Claudia and I finally saw everything through that perspective, making me both heartbroken for but endeared to her.

I don't have the words to explain how incredible this book was and how it impacted me. All I will say is that it was a harrowing and masterfully written story that gripped me from beginning to end.
