I got mixed emotions on this one. I think there was a lot of repeating subject matter and so I got bored pretty easily. There were a few good ones that I found. The second part, He, had some decent ones in it. Overall, I won't run off and buy this book. It is worth checking out at the library. I won't be keeping it on my shelf.

Some of my favorite words ever written. One I return to again and again. Always rich with wisdom.

A few good quotes/aphorisms, but also a lot of nonsense. I almost didn't finish, but every once in awhile there was a gem that kept me reading.

There were times where I would read an aphorism, and the gears would slowly start churning - as if they hadn't been greased in years yet still wanted to move - and suddenly, everything would click. During these moments, a chill would shoot through my spine and I would find my eyes watering up. As a college student, Kafka is rarely mentioned, which baffles me. So much of his writing and his ideas are so phenomenal and unique, to ignore him is a disservice to both him and oneself.

This book is going to be difficult for me to review because it's not what I was expecting or wanting. I was hoping for a book that would take me through some of the stories of Hindu mythology, an area in which my knowledge is woefully inadequate, being limited to hazy childhood memories. However, it turned out to be more a setting out of some of the principles of Hindu philosophy, using some of the stories to hang that on to. This is a noble aim in itself, but it's not what I was looking for.

Taking the book in its own right then, there's a lot of dense material here. Often you'll find a short story or parable from one of the ancient texts, and then a large amount of philosophy hung off the back of that. I must confess that I did struggle a lot with that, and a lot went sailing over my head. Difficult, dense, but probably rewarding, if you were willing to put more effort into it than I was.
