I love the way Mona discusses real life issues in her books. She always adds a sort of magical realism to her works (I have only read 2) you never know what’s real and what’s “magic”. Her writing is so thought provoking, like this book dove into the misogyny of the health industry and the difficulties of living with chronic pain. I don’t wanna talk too much about the actual plot because I think that takes away from her stories and the weirdness that happens. I loved the theater aspects of this as a theater nerd myself. Also the moral questions and such that a brought up in this were spectacular. I highly recommend giving this author a chance.

 Another one I'll have to come back to. The portrayal of chronic pain was almost too good, to the point where I didn't want to read it and be reminded of my own. I guess that's a good thing, but it dissuaded me from reading further (for now)

at one point i thought i was going to hate this and another i thought it was going to be one of the best of this year. this ended up neither, but some pleasant combination of the two.

i think this sums up pretty well the divisive nature of this novel, and the push and pull it fosters between love and hate. good and bad. sickness and health. witches and mortals.

a very delirious experience (postive!!). mona awad has such a distinctive and sharp writing style. 

definitely for fans of rouge.
