A bit of a slow start but never boring.

Wow. Just wow.

This book deserves five stars on so many levels. The story is more gripping than most fiction and the Audible narrator is superb. Like many, I was aware of Russia’s reputations for corruption in the abstract, but it was jaw-dropping to hear how purely evil and deep it runs. Not until the end, do you get a sense of how brave the author is for publishing this story. It also brushes up against the 2016 US election enough to fill in a little of the collusion gray area.

I have deep prejudices against biographical books and maybe that’s why I didn’t like this book to much but it was just a struggle to finish. This book embodied everything I hate about autobiographies. The Russia part and the investment stuff was pretty interesting but I just couldn’t stand how he writes. Every other chapter he makes it seem like it’s either the end of the world or the best day ever, there’s never any in between. Even when he talks about his own reactions it’s like he says he’s been dealing with Russia for 20 years and somehow is still ‘stunned’ when the Russians do something sketchy. He also just seemed to try way to hard to make him self look like a good person which I felt was usually extremely unnecessary and at times pretty ridiculous. It’s weird cause looking back I still find the overall story of the book very interesting but I just really did not enjoy the reading process whatsoever, especially the last 100 or so pages so has to be a 2.5/5 for me.
