We learned some things but a lot of it felt like filler which I feel happens with second volumes a lot.

After loving the first volume so much this was a little disappointing. I can't really put my finger on why, it just seemed to feel a bit thinner, focusing more on events at the expense of the charm and character that made the first volume so special. It was still plenty entertaining, but much less memorable, and whilst I will probably continue reading at some point, I won't be in such a hurry to pick up the next volume.

Update!! Full Review: http://www.bookishrealmreviews.com/2016/10/graphic-novelcomic-book-mini-reviews-1.html

This volume was even better than the first volume! I absolutely love where the plot is going and the character development. I actually see myself buying the single issues of this series now instead of waiting for the trade paperbacks. I may even do a review on the first two volumes so be sure to stay tuned in.

4.5/5 Stars!

This review originally appeared on Goldilox and the Three Weres.

I am so happy to say that this trade was just as good as the first volume! I loved it so much! Olive is still the main protagonist but this volume focused more on Maps! I love that she's bound and determined to figure out every secret Gotham Academy has. And I need more interactions between Maps and Damian Wayne like ASAP! I loved them together! I was also excited to see that Map's brother, Kyle, had more of a role. Unfortunately, Pomeline, Heathcliff, and Colton didn't have as much page time in this volume but what they did have, I loved.

This volume continues the story from volume one and the Detective Club encounters things from cursed pens to werewolves. I really enjoyed the different mysteries that the gang has to solve. In my opinion, the story line was more coherent and just better than in the first issues but the art is still the best part of this series beyond the excellent characters. Seriously. It's absolutely gorgeous and it fits the feel of the series perfectly. I found it interesting to learn more about Olive's family history and most importantly the truth about her mother. While I enjoyed that part of this volume, the Maps and Damien part was my favorite. I will say the cameos from established characters in the Batman universe are still on point. The writers also deserve an A+ with the literature references and I loved how the gang got involved in the school's production of Macbeth.

This comic series continues to be a breath of fresh air and I'm so excited to read more about the future adventures and shenanigans of the Detective Club! I just picked up the single issues to continue the series because I don't want to wait for the next trade.

A new mystery and adventure for our heroes to uncover!

We're introduced to more of the mysteries and supernatural beings that inhabit Gotham Academy in volume 2, and with that the stakes and dangers increase. The beginnings of two subplots are introduced, and while those were interesting, I found them to be a bit lack lustre in the overall volume because they're left hanging. Slightly disappointed by that, but I still had fun reading this.

Character growth is also taking root in this volume. Olive wants to find the truth about her mother and her mother's death, and becomes consumed by that pursuit. And it is Olive's pursuit for her family's and mother's history that readers are taken along to see a different side of Olive - a side of herself that she's only beginning to learn too. Maps also grows in this volume, but more importantly, she is that character readers are mean to identify with because of her excitement for the adventure ahead (aka how the mystery of the plot will unravel).

I'm very much tempted to buy the third volume just so I can keep reading because I think this is progressing very well. While the subplots are only introduced and will probably be a continuous aspect through the series, they have ultimately further peaked my interests to keep reading.

3.5* Even though I did not like it as much as I liked the first volume it was still a really fun and cute story. There are ghosts and other dark creatures and also some really interesting mysteries and the characters are just great, I especially love Maps she‘s just a lot of fun.

The reason I did not enjoy it as much as the first one was the story. I just a bit of a difficult time getting into it and it felt a bit all over the place. I also didn‘t really like the reveal of the big mystery...

I would still recommend this series though because the setting and the characters are great and the art is also quite beautiful.

I LOVE DAMIAN! The Robins in this volume added a dynamic that I really liked, I can't wait to see more of them. Maps was so cute, she is the definition of pure™ and I really liked learning more about Olive and her family dynamic.

Still lots of questions with not a lot of answers. The characters were fleshed out more and this was an enjoyable installment to the series.
