This book was not for me. The author seemed to have gotten lost in abstraction. I wasn’t sure what happened. The main character was so distant that I never had a strong sense of her personality, her feelings, or what she was hoping for in life.

It had so many good thoughts and ideas in it, but they were delivered in the most dry way imaginable. It managed to connect so many seemingly unrelated topics to one another to create a beautiful crossover between crisis both personal and political, in theory it was a beautiful book. Unfortunately the prose was so dry and heartless I felt like I was reading a dissertation about a topic I didnt care about. It almost amazed me how some lifechanging relizations could sound so boring. With 'prettier' or more moving writing it would have probably been an all time favourite of mine.
I wish I could've loved this book, but it just lacked all emotion to me.

“Feelings are formless, so you can’t expect to be able to trace their edges with words.”

Alright, I admit I finished this about a week ago, but my god has it stuck with me. What an utterly brilliant piece of writing. Part prose, part poetry, part essay… there was so much to digest that was just revelatory to me. Language, love, loneliness, philosophy, climate change, and cucumbers. Need I say more?

Well… maybe. I kinda wrote an essay about it because I loved it so much. I’m not kidding. Go read it if you want! Gloaming Notes REVIEW (sort of)
