I will write, I will piece together the story with my words, I will create scenes that are invented, reported, true, untrue, I will bring the tale to life and stop it from haunting me.
Quoting Aristotle, In All Men Want to Know Nina Bouraoui delivers a vivid autofiction novel from child to adult collected with the stories of various women. Encounters with grandmothers, mothers, sisters, family friends, friends, and lovers. Across countries, cultures and identity Remembering, Knowing, Becoming. Almost always marked with violence of one form or another, war, post-colonization, State, terrorism, bigotry, physical, sexual, emotional. In the process, defying things one might pass over in silence to instead give shape through writing. Filled with scents, sensations or, sometimes matter-of-factly. And in translation, translator Aneesa Abbas Higgins work on the book was awarded the English Pen Award. Indeed, this slim book is amenably readable. One that could be read in an afternoon yet will stay with the reader much longer.
