TRAUMATISING 😭😭 please look up the content warnings for this one

a very shocking followup to Convenience Store Woman that explores similar themes taken to their extremes, but perhaps Murata's take on those themes have taken on a bit more nuance? especially with that ending.

its a little disorganised, perhaps, but i can see what its going for. its a rather dizzying exploration into the effects of trauma and the intricacies of negotiating one's place in society

I don’t know why many are confused by this book. my interpretation: it’s about childhood abuse, specifically sexual abuse. traumatized children find each other in adulthood & traumatized children can cause harm to other children.

it shows the ripple effect of childhood trauma & how it lasts into adulthood. trauma can stunt your growth. the coping mechanisms the main character takes on is because she realizes she can’t escape the world having control over her body & mind. she disconnects herself as a survival mechanism.

My current favorite novel of all time, but difficult to recommend because of it's very twisted subject matters. What can I say, I love it when a woman writer explores weird topics. Interesting social commentary. Very graphic depictions of abuse that makes me sick and heart-broken, which helps make the writing very effective and powerful. Those who are triggered by these topics please stay away.

I don’t know what I just read…. It’s good, really good in some ways, but not at all what I was expecting and intense. Very very intense. The cover does not prepare you for what you are about to read. It speaks excellently to anyone who has ever felt like an alien on this planet, or questioned the status quo of society. Be sure to check the trigger warnings before reading but it’s worth the ride.
